Consumers take heart, three weeks of gas wars are continuing unabated in parts of the South Sound.

In Bonney Lake, where those price skirmishes have been the most intense, five stations were selling a gallon of unleaded regular for less than $3.20. The price leaders there, two Arco stations, were pricing their gas at $3.14 a gallon Monday morning.

Albertsons, Fred Meyer and Safeway are all under $3.20.

The Tacoma-area average has dropped to $3.381 a gallon, down more than five cents a gallon from last Monday, according to

That price is also five cents below the national average.

Other gas war battlefields remain active in Lakewood where multiple stations are selling gas for less than $3.25 a gallon.

In Olympia, gas prices are somewhat higher. The lowest price in there was $3.27 at U.S. Gas at 10222 Martin Way E. and $3.29 at an Arco station at 7291 Martin Way E.

In the Federal Way area, 12 stations were selling gasoline for $3.35 a gallon or less. The lowest price Monday,$3.25, was posted at an Arco station at 27202 Pacific Highway S.

At this time last year, gas was selling for 24 cents more a gallon in the South Sound.
