A mid-sized aerospace parts fabrication company, Orion Industries, is moving its 200-plus employee workforce from Federal Way to Auburn.
The City of Auburn has agreed to sell the company a site near the Auburn Airport for construction of a new, 100,000-square-foot building. Orion plans to bring 265 jobs to the South King County city.
Orion now operates from three buildings in Federal Way. The company has outgrown those buildings, and it wants to consolidate all of its fabrication work into a single building.
Orion expects to move into its new building about a year from now.
“Auburn is a key location for Orion for several reasons,” said John Theisen, Orion’s president. “It puts us in closer proximity to our largest manufacturing customer, Boeing Auburn, and positions us closer to a growing cluster of Aerospace suppliers.”
The site is part of a former transit park-and-ride lot that Auburn bought from King County.
“We are extremely proud that Orion Industries chose to expand its facilities and services in our city,” said Mayor Pete Lewis. “It is not only a top supplier of the Boeing Company, Orion Industries is one of the top workforce development companies in the region putting hundreds of people to work in the community.”
Orion has achieved a 20-percent annual growth for nine years. Boeing named Orion a “Supplier of the Year” recently.
