Mexico’s largest airline, Aeromexico, today formalized an order tentatively announced last July for 60 Boeing 737 Max airliners worth more than $6 billion at list prices.
The airline also took reconfirmation rights for 30 additional 737 Max aircraft.

Aeromexico’s order takes Boeing’s 737 Max orders to a total of 938.

The 737 Max is the fourth generation of Boeing 737 aircraft. The new plane, scheduled to enter service in 2017, incorporates a higher efficiency engine, split winglets and other aerodynamic improvements to increase fuel efficiency by 13 percent, said Boeing.
The Aeromexico order is a mix of Max 8s and Max 9s. The Max 8 is the mid-sized version of the new 737. The Max 9 is the largest model in the Max lineup. All 737s are built in Boeing’s Renton plant.
Boeing claims the Max will be eight percent more fuel-efficient on a seat-mile basis than Airbus’s rival, the A320neo. That’s a prediction that Airbus says is wrong. The A320neo, says the European planemaker, will surpass the Max in efficiency.
Aeromexico operates an all-Boeing fleet for airplanes larger than 100 seats. Grupo Aeromexico, the parent company of Aeromexico, operates its main hub out of the Mexico City International Airport. In 2011 the Group transported more than 14 million passengers and offers more than 550 daily flights to cities in Mexico, the United States, Canada, Central and South America, as well as Europe and Asia.
