ALAFCO, a Kuwait-based aircraft leasing firm, today finalized an order for 20 Boeing 737 Max 8 single-aisle aircraft valued at $2 billion at list prices.

The order is the first for the new 737 Max from the Mideast. The 737 Max is the newest version of the world’s most popular single-aisle commercial jet. The first Max is scheduled to go into service in 2017.

The Max line of aircraft is equipped with new engines and aerodynamic improvements over the current generation of 737s. Its fuel efficiency, Boeing claims is up 13 percent.

The ALAFCO order brings total orders for the 737 Max to 878.
