Alaska Airlines says it filled 84.5 percent of its seats with paying passengers in October, up 2.5 percentage points from October 2011.

The SeaTac-based airline said today its revenue-passenger-miles increased by 8.5 percent last months as its available seat-miles increased by 5.3 percent.

A revenue-passenger-mile is one paying passenger transported one mile.

On-time arrivals fell from 91.8 percent in October 2011 to 90.6 percent in October this year.

The airline said that superstorm Sandy had only a minimal effect on its October figures. The airline canceled a total of 38 flights to and from the East Coast as a result of the storm that hit the Northeast.
