Fifteen Sea-Tac flights to the East canceled, but signs of normalcy returning

Airlines have canceled 15 flights to major airports in the East and Midwest today from Sea-Tac Airport in the wake of megastorm Sandy, but most afternoon and evening flights to those airports are still set to fly.

All five daily non-stop airports to Newark’s Liberty Airport have been canceled, and three of five to New York’s JFK airport has been wiped from today’s schedule. One of three flights to Washington’s Reagan National Airport was canceled, and one of three to Washington Dulles is grounded today.

All three flights from Sea-Tac to Philadelphia won’t be flying today, and two of 13 daily flights to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport are canceled. A third flight to that Windy City airport is running some two hours and 40 minutes late.

Nationwide, airlines have canceled 4,570 flights today because of the storm that marched through the Northeast last night and which continues to cause havoc inland.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that all three daily flights to Boston are flying today. And afternoon and evening flights to some Eastern airports are still scheduled to leave on time. Among those airports are JFK, Washington National and Washington Dulles.

Authorities in New Jersey say Newark Airport may not be operating normally until Wednesday. New York’s LaGuardia Airport was shut down today and recovering from flood damage. No non-stop flights connect Sea-Tac and LaGuardia although some New York-bound passengers from Sea-Tac may have tickets that connect at other airports to LaGuardia.
