For more than 300,000 Washington taxpayers, Monday is the deadline to file their 2011 federal tax returns.
That’s the number that the IRS estimates sought automatic extensions from the April 15 deadline for filings in the Evergreen State.
Those returns can be filed electronically using the IRS e-file or Free File system.
Nationwide, more than 11 million taxpayers requested an automatic six-month extension of the normal April 15 deadline.
Though Oct. 15 is the last day for most people, some still have more time, including members of the military and others serving in Iraq, Afghanistan or other combat zone localities who typically have until at least 180 days after they leave the combat zone to both file returns and pay any taxes due.
People with extensions in parts of Louisiana and Mississippi affected by Hurricane Isaac also have more time, until Jan. 11, 2013, to file and pay.
