Tacoma’s MultiCare Health System today made it final.

The South Sound health care provider completed its purchase of Auburn Regional Medical Center today revealing the hospital’s new moniker, MultiCare Auburn Medical Center, in ceremonies this morning.

MultiCare CEO Diane Cecchettini and Auburn Chief Operating Officer David Nicewonger unveiled the facilities’ new name.

MultiCare’s Auburn Medical Center is the fifth hospital in the MultiCare chain, which includes Tacoma General Hospital, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital & Health Center, Allenmore Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital and numerous clinics and specialty centers throughout the South Sound.

MultiCare announced last spring that it would acquire the Auburn Regional Medical Center hospital and clinic assets from Universal Health Services, of King of Prussia, Pa.

“We are very excited to welcome Auburn Medical Center into the MultiCare system,” said Diane Cecchettini, RN, president and CEO of MultiCare. “With our network of clinics in South King County, it is exciting to envision all that we can do together to strengthen and expand the system of care in Auburn and the surrounding areas.”

MultiCare Auburn Medical Center is a 195-bed hospital with about 750 employees. The hospital, originally constructed to serve Northern Pacific Railroad workers has served Auburn and the surrounding communities since 1921.

Chief Operating Officer David Nicewonger, who has served as the administrator of the MultiCare Regional Cancer Center for the last eight years, will be the medical center’s administrator. Dr. Chad Krilich will serve as the medical director of MultiCare Auburn Medical Center. Dr. Krilich served as the regional medical director for MultiCare Medical Associates since 2010.

In South King County, MultiCare operates a new emergency department that opened in April at the MultiCare Covington Medical Center. MultiCare also has plans to build a hospital in Covington.
