Downtown Tacoma this weekend: Free art, dancing, singing – and shopping for a good cause

My colleague Rosemary has it covered over at Go Out on the Fall Free For All, the annual season kickoff for the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts.

It’s nuts. There’s Vicci Martinez. There’s Recess Monkey (I’ll be there with my small fry). There’s the Barefoot Collective, hip-hop artists from D.A.S.H. and the Reptile Man. To name a few.

During the weekend-long event, you also might plan to stop over just two blocks north of the Broadway Center on Opera Alley, on Court C between Broadway and St. Helens, for Shop ‘Til You Drop. Some 40 vendors will be open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society.

Shop ‘Till You Drop’s first customers will be those who bought tickets for the Broadway Center’s Retail Therapy fundraiser, a daylong shopping trip around Tacoma complete with party buses, champagne and swag bags.

Retail Therapy tickets are on sale through tomorrow, and are $75. Go to www.broadwaycenter.org and follow the links to buy a ticket. More than 80 people have signed up so far, Broadway Center’s development director Jane Bell said today.

“I’m just so proud to be able to organize this,” she said. “So many businesses around Tacoma are struggling, and to be able to support this from the Broadway Center is huge.”
