The Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metropolitan area ranks sixth in the country in exports, new data from the Department of Commerce shows.
Those statistics showed exports from the Puget Sound’s largest cities increased 16.1 percent in 2011 to $41.1 billion from $35.4 billion the year before.
Those exports were dominated by transportation equipment (Boeing aircraft), electronics, food and computer products.
Tops in the country for exports was New York and Northern New Jersey. Second on the list was Houston followed by Los Angeles, Detroit and Miami. Portland was 14th on the Commerce Department’s list. San Francisco-Oakland was 12th.
