The Globe Awards, the signature event of the Tacoma World Trade Center, is scheduled for Thursday evening at the Hotel Murano.

More than 400 international business professionals are expected to attend the 19th annual event, according to a news release. The gala will include dinner, a silent auction and presentation of the Globe Awards to companies and people who build international trade in the state. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.

This year’s categories and award winners are:

The Lifetime Achievement Award: Secretary of State Sam Reed, for his advocacy on international trade and relations for the State of Washington. During his three terms in office Reed has welcomed more than 150 foreign delegations, and has been one of the area’s most high-profile advocates in expanding trade.  Reed is retiring this year after 12 years as Secretary of State. This is the first time that the World Trade Center Tacoma will give a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 2012 G.F. Train International Business Commemorative Award: Congressman Norm Dicks, for his long-standing economic development leadership. Dicks has served as Washington’s Congressman from the Sixth District since 1977 and is retiring this year.

Exporter of the Year Globe Award: Boeing. Exports have now reached 80 percent of Boeing’s overall sales making the company Washington State’s number one exporter.

Importer of the Year Globe Award: Grakon, LLC for its 200 percent increase in imports during the past two years. Grakon products are all imported from China and include commercial vehicle and automotive interior lighting systems, exterior lighting, interior and exterior trim, and name badges.

Service Provider of the Year Globe Award: Access the USA, LLC, for its success in generating $212 million in international investment into Washington State’s economy since 2009. Headquartered in Lacey, the company helps immigrants to achieve their American dreams.

Emerging Business of the Year Globe Award: Johnny’s Fine Foods, for its recent successful international expansion. Although the company has been in business for 50 years, it has gone international in recent years and now exports to Canada, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Korea.
