Boeing today delivered its first 747-8 jumbo jet equipped with eight beds installed in the normally unused space above the rear passenger compartment.

The newest version of the 747 was delivered to an unidentified VIP customer. The Aeroloft private bedroom area was installed at Boeing’s Wichita plant. The upper level beds were designed by Kirkland’s Greenpoint Technologies Inc.

The loft area between the plane’s upper deck and its tail is accessed via a curving staircase from the lower deck. Here’s a video of the loft bedrooms.

The plane will be flown from Wichita to Europe for further interior equipment installation.

Boeing has sold eight of the big 747-8s to head-of-state and VIP customers. Including the loft bedroom areas, the plane has 5,179 square feet of space include 393 square feet in the bedroom loft area.
