If you’re curious about the demise of the Tacoma Elks Lodge and the subsequent construction of a new Walmart on the lodge site at South 23rd Street and Union Avenue, the contractor is providing a new tool.
Armchair construction superintendents can now follow the project progress on a webcam provided by Sierra Construction Co. of Woodinville, project contractor.
Here’s a snapshot of the site this morning from the cam.

As you can see, the Elks Lodge parking lot has been demolished. Toxic materials are being removed from the lodge interior in preparation for its demolition, which should begin in about two weeks.
Once the 1965-vintage lodge is removed, construction will start on the 150,000-square-foot Walmart superstore. The store will be the first for the Arkansas retailer, the world’s third largest company, inside the Tacoma city limits.
The construction will take about a year with an opening for the store sometime in the fall of 2013.
