Alaska Air begins Fort Lauderdale flights

Alaska Airlines has launched new service this week from Sea-Tac to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The flights replace Alaska’s service to Miami.

“Our flights continue to provide travelers with convenient service between the Pacific Northwest and South Florida, with even easier access now to the popular cruise ship port of Fort Lauderdale,” said Joe Sprague, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of marketing.

The airline switched to Fort Lauderdale from Miami in part because of lower costs at the Fort Lauderdale airport.

“By redirecting our flights to the lower-cost and traveler-friendly Fort Lauderdale airport, we can serve the same geographic region and continue to offer our customers low fares,” Sprague said.

The flight from Sea-Tac to the Florida city will be a “red eye” flight leaving at 10:10 p.m. and arriving in Fort Lauderdale at 6:55 a.m. The return flight leaves Fort Lauderdale at 8:10 a.m. and arrives at Sea-Tac at 11:25 a.m.

Members of Alaska Airlines’ Mileage Plan can earn double miles on the carrier’s nonstop flights between Seattle and Fort Lauderdale for travel through Sept. 11. To qualify, customers must first register at
