Tacoma Elks 174 will celebrate a groundbreaking for its new lodge and construction of a restaurant and pro shop on Wednesday, July 11, beginning at 4 p.m.

The ceremony will be held at 2125 So. Cedar St., on the grounds of Allenmore Golf Course across the street from and behind the back of the old Elks lodge, which will be demolished to accommodate a new Walmart store and other facilities.

The old Elks building has been closed and the Elks membership will hold their meetings at another venue during construction of the new lodge, which, at 39,000 square feet, is scheduled to open in late March or early April 2013.

The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking on Wednesday. A barbecue will be held following the ceremony.
