Finally (not withstanding a pop-up Halloween store) the empty building that formerly housed Borders Books at 2508 So. 38th St. near Tacoma Mall will once again host a retail outlet.

Beginning with a grand opening celebration on June 30, Ashley Furniture HomeStore will open its first location in Tacoma and the fourth store in the Puget Sound area.

To honor the opening, Ashley will be partnering with local organization, Family Renewal Shelter, and will donate 25 mattresses, box springs, bed frames and comforters to families in need, according to a release Monday.

FRS will be opening an additional facility soon for victims of domestic violence, and representatives will be on-site the day of the opening to offer guests information about their organization and its purpose.

The celebration on June 30 will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. featuring Tacoma Mayor Marilyn Strickland. The first 100 families to attend the grand opening will receive a $100 gift certificate, and all attendees will be eligible to win hourly giveaways including sofas, rugs, mattresses and other items.
