Two Sea-Tac-based airlines, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, topped the list of on-time airlines in May, according to Portland’s FlightStats.com
Horizon, a regional airline, topped all North American airlines with 94.34 percent of its flights on time last month. Alaska topped the list of major airlines with 90.75 percent of its flights on time in May.
Overall, North American airlines’ flights were on time 78.78 percent of the time in May. That’s down from April when the airlines averaged 81.32 percent on time.
The federal Department of Transportation defines an on-time flight as one arriving within 15 minutes of its scheduled time.
At the bottom of the list of major American carriers for May was Southwest Airlines with a 74.58 percent on-time record.
Three of the top five North American airports ranked by on-time departures were in the Pacific Northwest. Sea-Tac was second on the list in May with a 91.42 percent on-time record. Portland was third with 90.87 percent and Vancouver, B.C. was fifth with 87.86 percent of its flights departing on time.
