Mangoes, cheese, flowers, strawberries, wine and more: Veggies greengrocery in soft opening in Fircrest

It’s been a while since The News Tribune has been able to write the following sentence:
“Jumbo mangoes are on sale in Fircrest.”

As of Saturday, Veggies greengrocery has opened at 1111 Regents Blvd. in downtown Fircrest, in a space once occupied by Manley’s market.
Veggies opened on Saturday.

“It was pretty much a quiet opening,” said owner-partner Ken Grasser on Monday.

A grand opening is still a few weeks away, he said.

“We want to get our people trained,” Grasser said.

Veggies has hired 15 employees, and all positions have been filled, he said.

Along with mangoes, potatoes (10 pounds for $1.98) are on sale, as are strawberries (at $1.25 a carton).
Items selling well this weekend, Grasser said, were wine and cheese.

“People are saying they’re glad we’re here,” he said. “It’s going well.”
