Downtown Tacoma employers, Thursday brings a chance to learn about an employee perk that won’t cost you anything.
“Live Downtown” is a year-old program that provides financial incentives for employees to live close to work. Participation is free for the business, because the incentives are offered by the participating lenders and property owners.
Here’s how it works, according to a news release:
HomeStreet Bank, O’Connor and Associates, American Financial Solutions and other businesses offer discounts on home ownership and rentals for employees of participating businesses. Employees can save up to $6,000 on a new home (depending on loan amount) or up to $2,400 a year on a rental property.
The initiative is organized by Downtown On the Go, a collaborative effort of the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber, City of Tacoma, Pierce Transit, and downtown businesses, organizations, and agencies committed to reducing single-occupancy cars while encouraging a vibrant downtown.
Live Downtown now has four employers participating – BLRB Architects, University of Washington Tacoma, SiteCrafting and the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts. Kristina Walker, Downtown On the Go manager, said one employee has completed the process so far and five others have applied.
Employers who want to learn more are invited to an information session on Thursday, March 29, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at BLRB Architects, 1250 Pacific Ave. Suite 700. The event is free and open to the public.
Light refreshments will be served and attendees will have the opportunity to win an iPad. Please RSVP at 253-682-1739 or dotg@tacomachamber.org. Take the bus, the Tacoma Link or enter the Pacific Plaza garage via Commerce St. and Downtown On the Go will validate your parking.
