Fred Meyer stores will add Barnes & Noble’s Nook electronic book reader to its inventory of electronics for sale beginning Saturday.

The Nook joins Amazon.com’s Kindle e-reader on Fred Meyer’s shelves.

The Portland-based company said Nooks will be available in all 132 of its stores. The basic Nook will be available for $139. The Nook Color will be offered for $249.

The e-readers allow customer to download book electronically to the book-sized tablet-like computers. The Nook as well as other e-readers can store hundreds of books and other publications in its memory, obviating the need carry around heavy printed volumes.
