Boeing this month opened a refurbished paint hangar at its Renton plant as the company plans for substantial production speedups.

The hangar built in the 1950s will add painting capacity to the plant where Boeing is implementing higher production rates in steps beginning next year. Eventually, the Renton plant will produce 42 airliners a month beginning in 2014. The plant assembles 31.5 planes a month now.

The additional paint hangar was last used in 1994 to paint 757s.
