New owners at Engine House No. 9 are no strangers to the 6th Avenue restaurant scene

Adding to their stable of Masa and Asado, X Group Restaurants has purchased Engine House No. 9 – otherwise and fondly known as E9 – at 611 N. Pine St. in Tacoma.

“We plan on managing the E9 with the same enthusiasm and drive that we do our existing restaurants,” said new owner John M. Xitco in an e-mail.

Xitco will take over ownership during the week of July 18. He said he plans first to listen both to employees and customers concerning their ideas about the future of the establishment.

He said the management wants to learn “and find ways to build off the tradition and heritage that has been part of our community for a very long time.”

The firehouse was built in 1907 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 30, 1975.

“We will take it over and get to know the customers and employees, and like with any other business figure how we can improve things,” Xitco said last week. “We have no plans to make any big changes.”

He said the ambiance would remain intact, as would the microbrewery that supplies beverages.

Xitco is managing partner, and the partnership includes Jeff and Andie Paradise and Luke and Alisa Xitco.

The purchase price was not announced.
