As the weather gets worse, the airfares are getting better.
SeaTac-based Alaska Airlines and its sister carrier, Horizon Air, today joined the flock of airlines announcing bargain wintertime airfares.
$50 each way between Seattle and Long Beach, Ontario and San Francisco in California.
$75 each way between Sea-Tac and Denver, Houston and Palm Springs.
$100 each way between Sea-Tac and St. Louis, Austin, Texas, and Newark, N.J.
Many other cities are available at the sale rates including some in Hawaii and Mexico.
Those fares don’t include taxes and security fees.
Tickets must be purchased by Dec. 6, for travel between Dec. 6 and March 10, 2011, for most cities. Winter sale fares to Hawaii are valid between Jan. 5 and March 10, 2011, and to Mexico between Jan. 10 and Feb. 14, 2011. Tickets are available for purchase at alaskaair.com or horizonair.com.
The other usual fine print qualifiers apply. Not every seat is available at the bargain price and not every flight has seats at the bargain fares.
Alaska’s competitors such as Southwest Airlines and Virgin America has posted similar bargain fares but not necessarily for the same dates or destinations.
