American Airlines said this week it likely will use the first of its new Boeing 787 Dreamliners to fly between New York’s JFK Airport and London’s Heathrow Airport.

American is the second U.S. airline to announce its plans for the first of its new jets.
Continental Airlines, which will be merged with United Airlines this fall, has said it will use the first of its 787s on a route from Houston to New Zealand.

American said it will be replacing its Boeing 767 fleet with Dreamliners as they begin arriving in 2014.

Boeing last week announced its sixth delivery delay for the revolutionary aircraft. Now the first Dreamliner will be delivered to Japan’s All Nippon Airways in the first quarter next year. The planes had once been set for delivery in May 2008.
