Both passenger and cargo traffic at Sea-Tac Airport began a gradual increase last month according to new figures from the airport.

Nearly 23,000 more passengers used the airport in July this year than in July of 2009. That’s a .7 percent increase.

On the cargo side, freight volumes were up 6.67 percent in July over the same month last year, according to airport figures.

For the year, passenger numbers still are slightly down. Through July, 17,939,368 passengers passed through Sea-Tac compared with 18,024, 657 for the first seven months of 2009.

Cargo was up for the year with a 4.3 percent increase through the end of July, airport statistics show.

The number of aircraft operations was off 2.72 percent for the year despite the growing passenger numbers. Airlines have cut little used flights, increasing the percentage of seats filled on the remaining flights.
