Get your asparagus, both real and printed, at the Proctor Farmers’ Market Saturday

Not all of the vegetables will be edible at this Saturday’s Proctor Farmers’ Market. Artist Rachael Dotson will be signing her newest print “Asparagus” there.

Dotson is known around Tacoma as a public muralist. My colleague, Rosemary Ponnekanti, has written about Dotson and her murals before.

Dotson will be at the Proctor Farmers’ Market Merchandise Booth on Saturday from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. to sign her third print in a series.

“Asparagus” joins the Market’s earlier print releases: “Corn” and “Tulip.” The trio are replicas of Dotson’s large exterior murals on 27th Street.

Third Proctor Food Bank Art-a-thon this Saturday in Tacoma

Artists from the Proctor Art Gallery are once again volunteering their time and talent this Saturday at the Proctor Farmers Market to help raise money for the Mason Fish Food Bank. The third annual Proctor Food Bank Art-a-thon will see artists painting and making art during market hours to attract donations and pledges to buy fresh market produce for the food bank.

Over the past two art-a-thons the PAG artists, led by Carolyn Burt, have raised $2,700 for the market. Over the same period, the Mason Fish Food Bank has seen an increase of 70 per cent of clients

Proctor Farmers’ Market and Proctor Art Gallery stage the second Food Bank Art-a-thon

Support artists, farmers and hungry folk at the same time this Saturday at the Proctor Farmers’ Market, where the second Food Bank Art-a-thon is happening from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Begun last year, the Art-a-thon was organized as a way of generating funds to buy fresh produce directly from the Farmers’ Market and donate it to the FISH Food Bank, located nearby at Mason United Methodist Church.

Twelve artists from the Proctor Art Gallery around the corner will set up easels and workstations in a covered area of the market and paint, draw and create art all

New mural for Proctor Farmers’ Market to be unveiled this Saturday

Yay, Tacoma has another mural! Tacoma has a strong mural tradition (Old Town, Kings’ Books, 6th Ave Farmers Market, People’s Park, and all the “ghost” ones downtown, for starters.) But it’s always good to have more – and the Proctor district is getting another one this Saturday, thanks to a neighborhood grant and artist Rachel Dotson.

Dotson is an established muralist around town: She’s the artist who painted the historic scene on the side of the Waterfront Museum on Dock St, and all the giant portraits around Auburn. Now she’s turning her hand to art nouveau. Her Proctor
