Mural dedication for two new Ruston murals

The Ruston business district will host a dedication ceremony for two new murals recently installed on cafes along North 51st Street, Tacoma. An undersea mural representing the natural beauty of Point Defiance, painted over the summer on plywood panels by artist Mary Mann and students of Point Defiance’s Science and Math Institute high school, is mounted on the south wall of the Antique Sandwich Company café, while a mural of flowers was painted directly onto the wall of Don’s Ruston Market by artist Rachel Dotson in August.

New murals go up around Tacoma, thanks to City grants

How do you move a mural? In a school bus, of course. At least, if you’re Mary Mann you do.  The Tacoma muralist moved a 14-panel mural measuring 28 by 14 feet this morning from the gym at Stewart Middle School, where she had spent the last few months painting it, and its new home at Ruston’s Antique Sandwich Company. The mural’s partially funded by the City of Tacoma’s 2011 Innovative Neighborhood Grant program.
