Gig Harbor sculptor Mardie Rees unveils new commission honoring C.W. Lonsdale

Local sculptor Mardie Rees has been busy for the last couple of years on a certain man and his dog: Christopher Windley Lonsdale, to be precise, and his German Shepherd. Now her eight-foot-tall clay version of the founder of Vancouver, B.C.’s prestigious Shawnigan Lake School is ready to be cast in bronze, and Rees is holding a celebratory unveiling next Thursday and Saturday at the Real Carriage Door Co. in Gig Harbor.

A painstaking process which begins with creating a 21-inch-high model or maquette, then sculpting a larger-than-life clay version using historic photographs and live models wearing period
