It’s always sheer joy to hear The Esoterics. Puget Sound has plenty of choirs, but none other that sing terrifically difficult music that has only just been written (okay, maybe some from last century too) in a dozen different languages and a cappella to boot. Not only that but they sing exquisitely – hear those sopranos and die happy. Most impressively, they also commission their own works, and this Saturday sees a Tacoma performance of three of those as world premieres, alongside other poetic compositions.

Tacoma Performing Dance Company dances “From the Heart”

This Saturday the Tacoma Performing Dance Company presents “Dances From the Heart”, a spring repertory program of new work by artistic director Jo Emery and guest choreographers Amity Howel-Sloboda, Jean Milano, Anna Herron and Amity Kernen. Using crescendos and stirring scores, the program explores research on how music affects heart rates and rehabilitation, and half of the proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women. 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 14. $22/$18. Hilltop glass tribes at Seymour Conservatory

The Seymour Conservatory in Wright Park is now home to some newly-created archeological relics, blown in glass. “Shared Values: The Lost Tribes of Hilltop” features work of the Hilltop Artists in Residency, based at Jason Lee Middle School, as they create everyday objects reflecting an imaginary long-lost tribe. 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. third Thursdays through May 24. $5 suggested donation. Tonight’s scheduled concert at Christ Episcopal Church Tacoma has been rescheduled to Jan. 30, due to possible inclement weather tonight. The concert features music of the court of Louis XIV, played by the Salish Sea Festival trio of early music specialists John Lenti, Jeffrey Cohan and Joanna Blendulf.
