Blues Vespers on this Sunday, not Saturday, at Immanuel Presbyterian, Tacoma

Contrary to what ArtTix might have told you in this morning’s GO section, the monthly Blues Vespers at Immanuel Presbyterian is on Sunday at 5pm, not Saturday. Featured artists are Junkyard Jane and Jim King, and the Rev. Dave Brown will speak on “Dr. King: Dreaming like Martin.” It’s free, as always.

Fathers Day Blues Vespers features Henry Cooper and Bill Rhoades

Slide guitar master Henry Cooper will be featured at Sunday’s (Fathers Day) Blues Vespers at Immanuel Presbyterian Church at 5 p.m.

Joining Henry is Bill Rhoades, the “Northwest’s Master of the Blues.”

Blues Vespers is a Washington Blues Society award winning monthly event at Immanuel Presbyterian Church featuring blues music, poetry and a brief reflection.

There is no cost but a collection is taken.

Immanuel is at 901 N J Street in Tacoma.

Little Bill plays at Immanuel Presbyterian’s Christmas Blues Vespers this Sunday in Tacoma

This Sunday’s Blues Vespers at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Tacoma, features local blues legend Little Bill and the Blue Notes. Usually a trio, the band will expand to include Brian Kent and Scotty Harris on saxophone, Tony Grasso on trumpet and Buck England on B-3 organ to do big band arrangements of Christmas carols.

Blues Vespers combines music, a brief talk and prayer. This Sunday audience members are also encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy for charity.

Free Arts Month: Junkyard Jane at the Blues Vespers

Churches are often great places to find free music. In Tacoma, Christ Church Episcopal has a fantastic classical choir and Brombaugh organ; Bethany Lutheran has a full five-octave handbell choir; and Immanuel Presbyterian in the North Slope district has a Blues Vespers service, famous for enticing some of the best blues/jazz bands in the area. Tonight the band was Junkyard Jane, with a Martin Luther King Day reflection in the middle.
