Still time to see some “Nutcrackers” this weekend and next

It’s “Nutcracker” season, and there are plenty of varieties to choose from in the South Sound, quite apart from Pacific Ballet Northwest’s extravaganza in Seattle. Some have already gone, like Dance Theatre Northwest last weekend. But if you’re looking for a good dose of sugar plums and snowflakes, here’s the low-down on the rest.

This is the Olympia classic, performed by over 70 dancers in a huge range of ages with all the trappings in the Washington Center.

The Grand’s 72-hour Film Fest

See the efforts of 30 local film teams who spent 72 hours last weekend making a five-minute, Tacoma-based film at The Grand Cinema’s annual 72-hour Film Fest. 6 p.m. doors open, 7 p.m. films begin tonight. $15/$13 members. Ballet Northwest does “Swan Lake”

For the first time ever, the Olympia-based Ballet Northwest is mounting that classic dance tragedy “Swan Lake,” with Tchaikovsky score and lots of white tutus. 7:30 p.m. tonight, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. May 8, 2 p.m. May 9.
