Andy Warhol’s flowers come to TAM

In 1982, Tacoma almost became famous – for an Andy Warhol flower mural splashed right across the Tacoma Dome. It didn’t happen, but Warhol’s photographs, paintings and illustrations of flowers that inspired the application are coming to Tacoma Art Museum in “Andy Warhol’s Flowers for Tacoma.” 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursdays Nov. 3-Feb. 10, 2013. $10/$8/free for under-five and 5-8 p.m. third Thursdays. 1701 Pacific Ave., Tacoma. 253-272-4258, tacomaartmuseum.org

Raymond Turner at Museum of Glass

Former Tacoman Raymond Turner exhibits his thickly brushed paintings on glass at the Museum of Glass. Opening this weekend, “Population” extends through next February. Opens Nov. 3. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. third Thursdays through Feb. 3, 2013. $12/$10/$5/free for under-six and 5-8 p.m. third Thursdays. Art at Work studio tours

November is the City of Tacoma’s annual Art at Work month, and in addition to the usual round of concerts, workshops and exhibits this means a weekend of studio tours. This Saturday and Sunday take a peek into one of 55 Tacoma artists’ studios and see what they do. You can also get driven around a selection on the Art Bus. For locations see interactive map on website or paper brochure available at downtown museums, libraries and businesses. Open studios 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 3-4; Art Bus 1-4 p.m. each day (departs Tacoma Art Museum, 1701 Pacific Ave., Tacoma; takes in different studios). Pacific Lutheran University does “The Magic Flute”

Mozart’s magical opera about a goofy birdcatcher, a kidnapped princess, a psychotic mother and a rather special flute comes to life at the Pacific Lutheran University opera workshop next week. 8 p.m. Nov. 8, 9, 10; 3 p.m. Nov. 11. $15/$10/$5.
