If you’re interested in guiding and supporting Tacoma’s public art scene, the Tacoma Arts Commission needs you. Three positions are currently open for folks interested in volunteering on the commission, which advises the City Council on and allocates funding for literary, visual and performing arts-related projects, oversees the municipal art program and supports programs such as Spaceworks Tacoma, Art at Work: Tacoma Arts Month and the Tacoma Murals Project.

Commissioners serve for three years, meeting monthly at 5 p.m. on second Mondays in the Municipal Building downtown. The commission is currently looking for someone to represent the Cross District Association or Community Council of Tacoma; an at-large person working outside the arts but passionate about them; and someone with professional arts experience or training. The Tacoma Arts Commission is especially interested in applicants who live in under-represented parts of the City and bring diversity to the group. Applicants must reside within the city limits of Tacoma.

To apply, contact Cindy DeGrosse, Mayor’s Office, at 253-594-7848 or at cityoftacoma.org/cbcapplication. Applications are due Oct. 5. For more information see tacomaculture.org.
