Tacoma Art Place, our town’s community-based art studio on the Hilltop, is offering a free community day this Saturday. Workshops from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m. range from egg decorating to crocheting, plus there are raffle prizes, refreshments and a silent auction.

There are also tours of the studio. Tacoma Art Place was founded as a place for anyone in the community to have a place and equipment to make art, and for a small membership or drop-in fee you can make use of their kilns, cameras, sewing machines, tools, tables, supplies and expertise.

Here’s the line-up for Saturday:

11 a.m.-2 p.m. Egg blowing and decorating

11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Intro to ceramics

12 p.m.-1 p.m. Beading bracelets

12:30-1:30 p.m.  Iris folding paper art

1-2 p.m. Children’s hair pins

1:30-2:30 p.m. Crocheting scarves

2-3 p.m. Basic portrait drawing

2:30-3:30 p.m. Basic quilting

3-4 p.m. Origami

Tacoma Art Place is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. April 7, then 1-8 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday, 1-5:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. Membership $48/$38. Community day free. 1116 S. 11th St., Tacoma. 253-238-1006, tacomaartplace.org

  1. We would like to commend all TAP Volunteers and BOD Members who contributed to making this years annual FREE “Community ART Day” event possible.

Your hard work and dedication was well represented with new “faces” attending and participating in various FREE “activities” (ART demonstrations, workshops, etc.) scheduled throughout the day.

A big “Appreciation” and “Thank You” to our first time ART guests, our beloved local community, TAP members and community sponsors for helping make this event successful through attendance/participation, donations, marketing, membership, support and volunteer efforts.

We look forward to seeing and working with “ALL” of you again with future TAP events – GO ARTS!

REMEMBER: TAP’s mission is to provide access to equipment and training that will allow more people to affordably explore their creativity and artistic ability. We have a special emphasis to reach underserved individuals with FREE or REDUCED-COST MEMBERSHIPS and to offer ARTS education in the community.

    Sincerely, TAP Board Members
