You can welcome in the New Year with new music next Tuesday at the free Classical Tuesdays in Old Town series. Saxophonist Erik Steighner plays with trumpeter Zachary Lyman in a program filled with newly composed music that blends live acoustic with electronic sounds.

Steighner, a sax teacher at Pacific Lutheran University and active solo and chamber musician, is known for premiering new works, and will be playing alto, baritone and soprano saxes alongside fellow PLU faculty member Lyman. On the program are new works by Tacoma composers Deborah Anderson and PLU composition professor Greg Youtz.

7 p.m. Jan. 8. Free. Slavonian Hall, 2306 N. 30th St., Tacoma. 253-752-2135,
