Cantus sings a World War I Christmas

All-male a cappella vocal ensemble Cantus recreates Christmas of 1914, when a young German soldier initiated a one-night truce of music and peace by singing “Stille Nacht” (“Silent Night”). Vashon Island Art Studio Tour

Over 40 studios open their doors this and next weekend for the annual Vashon Island Holiday Art Studio Tour. With media including fiber art, glass, jewelry, wood, candles, pottery, tile, mosaic, paper art, photography, sculpture, prints and paintings, it’s a great chance to see the island’s artists in action and maybe buy some unique holiday gifts too. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 3, 4, 10 and 11. Holiday concerts at UPS

Three upcoming concerts at the University of Puget Sound usher in the holidays. Today, organist Joseph Adam plays works for Advent and Christmas with audience singalong: 2 p.m. today, free. Tomorrow and Sunday, the Adelphian Concert Choir and Voci d’Amici sing holiday music from around the world: 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3 and 2 p.m. Dec. 4, $8.50/$4.50. On Sunday is the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols, with seasonal readings and music by the Adelphian Concert Choir: 7 p.m. Dec. 4, free with canned food donation. “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at PLU

Shakespeare’s midsummer comedy of fairies, mortals, mixed-up identities and love opens next Wednesday at Pacific Lutheran University, with contemporary costuming and a whimsical set in a student-run production. 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7-10, 2 p.m. Dec. 11. $8/$5 students.
