Starting up again this weekend is the free live jazz series at Marine View Presbyterian Church in Northeast Tacoma. Opening the fall season on Sunday evening is the Matt Jorgensen Quintet, playing music from their latest CD “Tattooed by Passion:” The CD is a tribute to Jorgensen’s late father-in-law artist Dale Chisman, and the musical numbers will be enhanced by projections of Chisman’s works above the stage.

Jorgensen, a drummer and co-artistic director of the Ballard Jazz Festival, will be joined by trumpeter Thomas Marriott, saxophonist Mark Taylor, pianist George Colligan and bassist Mark Hunter.

The rest of the fall series features gypsy jazz band Pearl Django with singer Greta Matassa (Nov. 13) and Christmas jazz from Michael Powers (Dec. 18).

Shows are free and all-ages.

5 p.m. Oct. 9. Free. Marine View church, 8469 Eastside Dr. NE, Tacoma. 253-229-9206, www.marineviewpc.org, www.mattjorgensen.com

  1. It is good to know that Gypsy jazz music is so much alive! In our line of business, we ( http://www.v-picks.com ) take pleasure in getting to know that people are enjoying various genres of music, especially those that touch the hearts and soul of the audience like how Django Reinhardt did in his time.
