The Ruston business district will host a dedication ceremony for two new murals recently installed on cafes along North 51st Street, Tacoma. An undersea mural representing the natural beauty of Point Defiance, painted over the summer on plywood panels by artist Mary Mann and students of Point Defiance’s Science and Math Institute high school, is mounted on the south wall of the Antique Sandwich Company café, while a mural of flowers was painted directly onto the wall of Don’s Ruston Market by artist Rachel Dotson in August.

Both artists will be at the dedication ceremony. The murals were supported by the City of Tacoma’s Innovative Neighborhood grants program, which supports beautifying projects in local neighborhoods. Community members will decorate the sidewalk connecting the two murals, and refreshments will be served.

The dedication starts at 11 a.m. Sept. 17 at the Antique Sandwich Company at 5102 N. Pearl St., Tacoma, before moving down to Don’s Market, 5102 N. Winnifred St., Tacoma. More information on the artists can be found at www.marycmann.com and www.greenapplegraphics.net
