I sometimes get queries from readers: where to find a show, clarification on stories, how much the old painting in their attic is worth. (Answer: I haven’t a clue!) But this one struck me as worth sending out to you readers in case someone can help. The reader is Carol Trausen, a four-year breast cancer survivor in Tacoma who has watched her mother, sister and aunts go through the same thing, and has written a musical comedy about the journey through cancer – in her words, “sort of the Mel Brooks approach to cancer.” What Carol needs now is a theater company willing to take it on.

Here’s what she said to me:

“My mother is presently in the last stages of stage four lung cancer, (though) she quit smoking when she was pregnant with me. She doesn’t have much longer. Her attitude and my own experience inspired me to write a musical comedy about cancer. My dream is to have it performed here in Tacoma and in Seattle to benefit the Hutch and Northwest Hematology and Oncology. Here’s the problem: I need a collaborator. A musical partner. I need people who can be as committed to the cause as I am.

Everyone’s lives have been touched by cancer. I’m a woman with a vision and I need

a little help to get the message out there.”
