At its annual Red Hot Party and Auction last month, the Museum of Glass in Tacoma raised over $570,000 for exhibition, education and visiting artist programs. The juried art auction attracted works by 99 regional, national and international artists, of which the grand prize winner was Seattle’s Jennifer Elek.

The grand prize, selected by jurors Kelly Conway (Chrysler Museum), Douglas Heller (Heller Gallery, New York) and Richard Marquis (glass artist, Seattle), included $10,000 cash and a week-long artist residency in the museum’s Hot Shop. Other prize-winners included April Surgent (Seattle, Artists’ Choice Award), J. Lin-Hsien Kung and Alexander Sarkis (Oakland, CA, People’s Choice Award). Each of these included $5,000 cash and a week-long Hot Shop residency.

More than 300 people attended the event, an annual fundraiser for the museum.
