Poet Laureate workshop

Josie Emmons Turner, Tacoma’s Poet Laureate, will give a free poetry workshop exploring “Place and Persona” this Saturday at Fort Nisqually. Writers will look at how to combine the imaginary with the real world in persona poems. Bring lunch, paper, pen and something to write on. 9 a.m.-1 p.m. July 16. Free. New Mildred Howard show at Museum of Glass

The Museum of Glass has just opened a new exhibit by San Francisco artist Mildred Howard, whose installation “Blackbird in a Red Sky” stood outside at the museum’s 2002 opening. Her new work in “Paranthetically Speaking” comprises 40 glass punctuation marks, together with poetry by Peabody Award-winning Quincy Troupe. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sunday through Labor Day (exhibit up through April, 2012). $12/$10/$5/free for five and under and 5-8 p.m. third Thursdays. 1801 Dock St., Tacoma. 866-4-MUSEUM, www.museumofglass.org

Click Flick: “Dennis the Menace”

Gig Harbor Summer Art Festival

Gig Harbor’s 27th annual Summer Art Festival comes to the downtown waterfront this weekend courtesy of the Peninsula Art League, featuring hand-crafted work by 135 artists and craftspeople from throughout the Northwest. There’ll also be 15 stage and wandering performers, a drum circle, food vendors, a “Chalk the Walk” sidewalk event on Saturday and a PAL exhibition at Key Bank. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. July 16, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 17.
