Maritime Gig Festival

Join in the fun, food, festivities and everything watery at the annual Maritime Gig Festival in Gig Harbor this weekend. Events include Fun Run, Pancake Breakfast, Grand Parade and Round Rock Contest, plus this year’s pirate theme. 10 a.m.-9 p.m. June 4, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 5. Free. Two Tacoma Tapestry shows

Tacoma becomes tapestry central this weekend, with two shows in two venues highlighting work from both local and national artists. At the Handforth Gallery the American Tapestry Alliance presents “Small Tapestry International 2: Passages,” and at Brick House the Tapestry Artists of Puget Sound present “Warped, Beaten and Hung.” Handforth events June 4: Artist talk with Jean Pierre Larochette and others 1-3:30 p.m.; artists’ reception 3:30-5:30 p.m. “Small Tapestry” shows 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Saturday through July 1. Jo Emery School’s “Dances with Dancers” at Pantages

The Jo Emery Ballet School’s annual showcase “Dances with Dancers” at the Pantages Saturday night features both students and the Tacoma Performing Dance Company in a Moulin Rouge production, a Beatles-inspired contemporary piece and “Alice in Wonderland.” 7:30 p.m. June 4. $25/$22/$18. Ten Tiny Dances at Jazzbones

Ten dances, each 10 minutes long max, on a tiny stage just four by four feet – if you haven’t seen past incarnations of this alternative-venue contemporary dance event, you get another chance this Sunday at Jazzbones club.
