Auburn’s not known for a bustling art community, even though it’s home to a museum (the White River Valley Museum), an energetic Town Hall art exhibit program, and several artists. This weekend the town celebrates its art community with its first ArtWalk in the historic downtown district, combining wine tasting from local wineries.

The free event features displays and demonstrations by local artists at over 20 downtown businesses, wine tastings, music performances and art activities. A walking guide map will be available.

“We are thrilled that community and artists have come together to plan this event in celebration of the arts,” says Maija McKnight, arts coordinator for the City of Auburn.

The City hopes that the ArtWalk will become a biannual tradition, similar to the ArtsWalk in Olympia.

4-9 p.m. May 13 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 14. Free. Main Street, downtown. 253-939-3982, www.auburnartwalk.com
