Mineral art space in Tacoma’s Stadium District has closed, and a new gallery will be opening in its place on May 19: Flow. Run by sumi-e and calligraphy artist Andrea Erickson, the gallery and studio will open with the show “Commencement,” featuring work by Erickson, Fumiko Kimura, Selinda Sheridan and Kathryn Whitacre, in a mixture of watercolor, mixed media, jewelry and three-dimensional art.
Andrea Erickson is a local sumi-e and calligraphy artist who has shown at the Bellevue Art Museum , the Western Washington State Fair, the Handforth Gallery at the Tacoma Public Library, the Kirsten, Sandpiper and White Dove Galleries, among others. In 2005 she won the Innovative Calligraphy award at the National Sumi-e show in Clearwater Florida .
Lisa Kinoshita, a jewelry and mixed-media artist who had opened Mineral in November, 2007, has decided to close her gallery and move out of the studio to concentrate on her own artmaking, including an artist residency in New Mexico.
“I’ll still be in Tacoma,” says Kinoshita, “(but) I’m not sure what the future holds in regards to a gallery. For now, I just needed a break.”

What an inspirational location for artists to create and present their work. Flows’ opening was greeted by a diverse gathering of folks that all left with something to remember. Their gallery features sumi-e and calligraphy arts…. Great friends, food, music and the most delicate art one could imagine.
