Tacoma artist John McCuistion has had a long career of thoughtful, skillful and innovative ceramic sculpture, and much of it is now on view at the Mary Boze Gallery at Tahoma Unitarian Universalist Church. McCuistion, UPS professor and award-winning artist, combines thick glazing with organic shapes and challenging social concepts to make work that, in his words, “is about history, myth, storytelling, religion, relationships, ceremony, civilization and humor.”

The show at Mary Boze ranges over many years of platters, tiles and murals.

“John McCuistion: Returning and Remembering” is open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday-Friday through Dec. 28 at Tahoma Unitarian Universalist Church, 1115 South 56th Street, Tacoma (ring the bell.) 253-474-4646, www.tuuc-wa.org
