You don’t want to step on these pumpkins. Tacoma Glassblowing Studio is repeating the highly successful Glass Pumpkin Patch it held last Halloween in Pioneer Park, Puyallup. Jeannine and Mark Sigafoos came up with the idea last year to spread hundreds of handblown glass pumpkins on the grass along with bales of hay and scarecrows, for browsers to buy. This year, the patch is growing.
Says Jeannine: “Last year was such an incredible success. This year will be much bigger and better…with five patches in five different locations.”
Two of those will be close to home. This Saturday the glass pumpkin patch will be held at the Pagoda at Point Defiance; next Saturday it will migrate to Pioneer Park. (The patch has spent October roaming from Bellevue to Issaquah to West Seattle.) Each patch will have between 1,000 and 2,000 pumpkins in various sizes and colors, including the 2010 Signature Pumpkin. Prices start at $35 for the smallest, and a portion of the proceeds will go to help children with HIV/AIDS in the Northwest via REACH ministries of Tacoma, and children living at the Emmaus Home in Bogata, Romania via Kidstown. Even if you’re not buying, it’s worth a look – certainly the only time you’ll see a field of glass pumpkins!
