Federal Way native Michael McGrady, who plays “Sal” in the TNT police drama “Southland,” will be appearing this weekend in Puyallup in a completely different artistic context – as the guest of honor at the 2010 Celebration of Western and Wildlife Art Show at the Fred Oldfield Center at the Fair.

McGrady, a Federal Way High School graduate who made it in Hollywood with roles in “Las Vegas,” Fox’s “24” and more, is also a painter whose style involves thick, multidimensional layers and bold colors.

Inspired by a program he saw on PBS featuring local Western painter Fred Oldfield, the actor became a student and friend of Oldfield’s, and will be appearing and filming at the Western and Wildlife Art Show this weekend as part of a line-up of over 100 national Western artists in media from oils, watercolors, drawings and photography to bronzes, weavings, paper sculpture and jewelry.

The show benefits the “Experience Art Program” at the Fred Oldfield Western Heritage and Art Center, a program designed to engage students of all ages in a guided creative learning experience.

The show runs 3-10 p.m. Oct. 8, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Oct. 9 and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Expo Hall, Puyallup Fairgrounds, 110 9th Ave. SW, Puyallup. Admission and parking are free. www.fredoldfieldcenter.org

  1. I thought ‘Wow. Something interesting to see locally’. Then I noticed it’s been and gone.
Now, I don’t know if it was published before the show began but they ought to make it clear at the beginning that the show had ended.
