If you’re a fan of acrobatics, extravagant costumes, fantastical world music and general thrills, you won’t want to miss Cirque du Soleil, in town for the first time ever next Wednesday. The behemoth Canadian company which runs over 20 shows constantly and has revolutionized human-based circus over their nearly-three decades arrives at the Tacoma Dome on Sept. 15 for a five-day run of their long-running “Alegría.”
“Alegría” is Spanish for “jubilation,” and that’s exactly what the show’s about: the sheer joy of youth, expressed in aerial bar, flying bungee acrobatics, power track trampolining, hoops, fire knives and all the other impressive tricks we’ve come to expect from these superstar performers.
Don’t expect cheap tickets, though there is a family rate and group discounts. Read my feature on Sunday for more information, but book tickets now if you want the seats right underneath those flying trampolinists.
Cirque du Soleil performs “Alegría” 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15, 16, 17, 18; 3:30 p.m. Sept. 17, 18; 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Tacoma Dome, 2727 E. D St., Tacoma. Tickets: $44-$104 adults/$41-$95 seniors, students, military/$37-$84 ages 2-12/free ages under-2/group rates available. 866-448-7849, www.cirquedusoleil.com, www.ticketmaster.com
