Justin Ahren is the featured poet for the Puget Sound Poetry Connection Distinguished Writers’ night this Friday at Kings Bookstore. Ahren, who lives on Martha’s Vineyard island in Massachusetts, travels regularly to Latin America, which has inspired his most recent book “Gone.” Ahren teaches poetry and is the founding director of the Martha’s Vineyard Writers Residency, with an MFA in creative writing from Emerson College, Boston.

As always at PSPC nights, an open mic will follow Ahren’s reading, so bring along your own poetry and confidence. PSPC is a local poetry group which has been running for 20 years. It holds monthly reading nights and organizes special events. Upcoming readers include Nancy Dahlberg (Oct.) and Jody Zorgdrager (Nov.) plus a poetry marathon on Nov. 20.

The PSPC Writers’ night is at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at Kings Bookstore, 218 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma. Free. 253-471-8804, pugetsoundpoetryconnection.art.officelive.com
