Make books at the Collins Library

Meet the artists and learn how to make tricky books, paper toys and paper party décor at the opening of a new books-and-letterpress exhibit at the University of Puget Sound’s Collins Memorial Library. The show features Purgatory Pie Press, a husband-and-wife team (Dikko Faust and Esther K. Smith) from New York who’ve shown at museums worldwide. Chastity Belts and Boudoirs on Puyallup Avenue

Art gets racy this month at the 301 Puyallup Ave. artspace. Mineral (Suite A) holds its second annual Chastity Belt show, with artist-created versions of the infamous garment, and Suite B is taken over by the artists of Madera Architectural Elements to create “Don’t Look,” a boudoir vignette of hand-crafted furnishings. Suite C (watercolorist Val Persoon) will also be open. Preview events are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Aug. 14 and 5-8 p.m. Aug. 19; after that “Don’t Look” will be viewable from the street through peepholes til Sept. 14, and Mineral is open noon-5 p.m Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday through August. ArtWalk: Geocaching and Korean Art

This month’s ArtWalk includes an urban geocaching workshop and scavenger hunt at Tacoma Art Museum, as they unveil the museum’s new cachebox. There’s also an artist reception for 19 Korean artists at a new show at the Tacoma library’s Handforth Gallery, plus the usual free museums and late-opening galleries. The ArtBus is back, too. Kittredge Gallery hosts four years of the Greater Tacoma Foundation Art Award

 The winners and nominees for The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation’s annual Art Award from 2008-2010 are on show this month at UPS’ Kittredge Gallery.
